Monica turned me on to How I Met Your Mother a couple of winters ago. I was aware of its existence prior to that. So why did I steer clear? I haven't been on board with a multi-camera set-up sitcom for ages. There is a laugh track, people. A laugh track!

But I was easily won over by (1) the cast (Jason Segel! Alyson Hannigan! And -- hello? -- N.P.H. Heck, they're all great. Even though I don't really like Ted and he's supposed to be the main character. Whatev); (2) the fact that I kind of represent the "target market" for this program, and the characters are roughly my age (i.e. at least mildly relatable); (3) plentiful references to the idiosyncrasies of the upper Midwest that actually make me laugh instead of making me want to jot off a snide email to CBS.
